Profile

I studied as a Chemical Engineer in the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and after the first 3 years I chose to follow the orientation studies for Biotechnology. I actually got into Bioinformatics during the last year of my studies thanks to my undergraduate thesis which took place in collaboration with the National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF) and involved detecting genetic damage biomarkers to environmental exposure.

After graduation in 2010 I started my PhD in Bioinformatics at NTUA but took a turn from biomedical research and got involved in Metagenomics for novel enzyme discovery. During the last years of my PhD I also got involved in Metatrancriptomics for the early detection of marine leakages from CO2 Capture Projects.

After completing my PhD I was reintroduced to biomedical research as a Postdoctoral Researcher at NHRF dealing with Epigenomics for the detection of the (epi)genetic effects of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in humans.

Currently, I am a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Bioinformatics at the Centre for Cancer Screening, Prevention and Early Diagnosis at Queen Mary University of London, where I work on epigenetic projects for cervical, prostate and colorectal cancer.
