Dr Georgios Karampatakis , MPharm, MSc, PhDPostdoctoral Researcher-Health ServicesCentre: Centre for Primary CareEmail: g.karampatakis@qmul.ac.uk ProfileResearchPublicationsProfileI am a qualified pharmacist by background. My research focuses on evaluating healthcare services to generate evidence-based knowledge with regards to their impact and, therefore, inform the wider domains of policy and practice. I am also interested in Fitness to Practice (FTP) data and its potential for learning to enhance education for healthcare professionals. In 2016, I completed an MSc in Clinical Pharmacy at University College London and worked in a collaborative project with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, which attempted to identify the impact of electronic prescribing systems on ward pharmacist work. In late 2020, I completed a PhD in Pharmacy Practice. As part of my doctoral thesis, I aimed to build evidence for the impact of pharmacists in general practice. This was done by exploring the experiences and the views of various stakeholder groups, including patients, community pharmacy teams and general practice-based staff. I joined QMUL in March 2022, as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Centre for Primary Care, part of the Wolfson Institute of Population Health, within the Barts & The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. My role is to support the day-to-day delivery of the AD-HOC study which is a multidisciplinary, mixed-methods programme of work, funded through a NIHR Programme Grant for Applied Research and led by Dr. Anna De Simoni, that sets out to co-design a digital social intervention for people with troublesome asthma and evaluate its impact on health-related outcomes. I am contributing to all aspects of the AD-HOC study, including development of ethics applications, protocols and study documentation, data collection procedures (e.g. focus groups, interviews and collection of outcome measures from individual participants), data analysis, and writing up of research outputs. I am also supervising postgraduate students (MSc), in carrying out their dissertation projects, and contributing to teaching activities at QMUL.ResearchResearch Interests:My research interests include topics relating to pharmacy practice, primary care, digital interventions in healthcare, healthcare policy and regulation, healthcare workforce and education, and medication safety. From a methodology point of view, I have a particular interest in in-depth qualitative techniques, formal consensus methods, realistic evaluation, and systematic reviews.
