I am a consultant general adult psychiatrist in East London NHS Trust currently working in the Psychiatry Liaison Service at the Roya London Hospital. My research has focused on mood disorders and particularly on the interface of depression and stress with other medical conditions. Previous studies have focused on the relationship of depression and stress with chronic pain, including fibromyalgia and facial pain, recovery after trauma, coronary heart disease, and cancer. I have led a large multidisciplinary project focusing on overcoming stigmatizing attitudes to mental health. Currently, in collaboration with colleagues from other institutions and universities across the UK and in Japan, I am conducting several studies on wellbeing and mental health in medical students to improve future support for students and doctors. TeachingI am Lead for undergraduate MBBS Psychiatry education and co lead for the professionalism curriculum.
