Profile

I gained a BSc degree in Neuroscience at University of Leeds (2002), and subsequently a Post-graduate Diploma in Public Health (Distance Learning) from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in 2017, which I did alongside work with the goal of broadening my knowledge and skill base in clinical trial conduct and design.

 

I first joined QMUL in 2006 as a Clinical Research Associate working on two large scale international chemo-prevention trials in breast cancer (IBIS-II trials). This was my first introduction to working on clinical trials and allowed me to experience all aspects of managing a trial. In 2012, I moved to the William Harvey Research Institute at QMUL as Clinical Trials Centre lead to set-up a new sub-unit of the Barts CTU in Experimental Medicine & Rheumatology. In this position I implemented a quality management system and infrastructure for the conduct of rheumatology clinical trials and built up a core team of clinical trials staff.

 

From 2018 – 2022 I was a Trials Group Lead at the CRUK & UCL Cancer Trials Centre at UCL, and led the operations for a portfolio of 25 clinical trials and a team of 20 staff.  This role offered valuable insight into the workings of a large scale CTU (approx. 115 staff in total) and a portfolio of mostly early phase CTIMPs in a broad range of cancer types.

 

I returned to the Barts CTU at QMUL, as Head of Clinical Trial Management in Nov 2022. In this role I provide operational oversight for all clinical trial activities within the unit including trial management, data management and quality assurance. A key area of key responsibility is to support the Barts CTU Director and Deputy Director in the strategic development and growth of the Barts CTU trials portfolio.  This involves supporting Chief Investigators with early grant development and trial costings for new proposals.  I support the QA Manager to maintain the Barts CTU quality management system with a focus on ensuring efficiency in trial conduct whilst also ensuring compliance with Barts CTU SOPs. The Barts CTU has a core trial portfolio in cancer prevention & screening studies, but also operates as a hub-and-spoke model with sub-units in the Experimental Medicine & Rheumatology Clinical Trials Centre and Cardiovascular CTU (both in the William Harvey Research Institute, QMUL) and I provide oversight and support to these sub-units.
