Profile

Michelle Sleeth is the Head of Operations for the Cancer Prevention Trials Unit (CPTU) which is one of seven CRUK-funded CTU’s funded to deliver innovative and practice-changing clinical research that impacts the care and outcomes for cancer patients in the UK and across the world.

 

Michelle graduated from the University of Surrey in Nutrition and Dietetics. She then moved to the Section of Investigative Medicine at Imperial College London to complete her PhD and Post-doc. Michelle has worked in academic units across Imperial College London, Queen Mary University of London and King’s College London, supporting investigators to conduct high-quality clinical research in therapeutic areas including diabetes, obesity and cancer. Michelle has also project managed the International Breast cancer Intervention Study II (IBIS-II), a large international phase III trial investigating Tamoxifen and Anastrozole.

 

Michelle has worked at the CPTU since 2016 and became Head of Operations for the CPTU Unit in 2020. She has overseen the rapid expansion of the unit including leading on the set up of new projects including NHS-Galleri. She provides strategic and operational leadership to the CPTU core team funded by Cancer Research UK and works closely with the CPTU Director (Peter Sasieni) and CPTU Head of Trial Management (Abby Sharp) to maintain and grow the exciting portfolio of CPTU projects in cancer screening, prevention and early detection.

 

In 2023, Michelle oversaw the move of the CPTU back to QMUL (the unit was based at King’s 2019-2023) and has overseen the integration of the unit into the new Queen Mary Centre for Cancer Screening, Prevention and Early Diagnosis.
