Ms Shamsia Begum-ForemanSpecialist Tobacco Cessation Service ManagerCentre: Centre for Public Health & PolicyEmail: s.begum@qmul.ac.ukTelephone: 0207 882 3264 ProfileResearchProfileI am the Specialist Tobacco Cessation Service Manager at the Health and Lifestyle Research Unit at the Centre for the Public Health and Policy. I have worked at Queen Mary over the last 22 years working within Smokeless Tobacco Research and stop smoking service delivery as a Research Assistant, Tobacco Cessation Practitioner and now Service Manager. I have managed the delivery of niche smokeless tobacco and smoking cessation services from 2000 – 2017 within the Dental Institute. Some of this work involved research and publications around smokeless tobacco use, among female south Asian smokeless tobacco users and Bangladeshi male smokers. From 2017, I have led the delivery of the Tower Hamlets Tobacco Cessation Service with Professor Peter Hajek and support the service side of Health and Lifestyle Research Unit. Our work is quite niche with regards to service delivery as the University is commissioned by Local Authorities to provide this work. Some of the data we produce helps to inform wider research and recruit participants to current trials that are running in HAL. I enjoy this work and regularly deliver a stop smoking workshop to year 4 Dental Under Graduates and help with training within the unit. I am currently offering work experience to our students and postgraduates in the boroughs that we cover. Outside of work I am a mum to two and avid gardener. I’m very involved in my local community as the Chair of the residents committee and various stints as a school governor.
