I graduated from University of Milan (Italy) with an MSc in Industrial Biotechnology. In 2009, I joined the group of Prof Pitzalis and Prof Bombardieri in London for my PhD which I completed in 2013 with a thesis entitled: “Characterization of peripheral and lesional single B cell autoreactivity in patients with Sjögren’s syndrome and rheumatoid arthritis”. In 2014, I was awarded an Arthritis Research UK Foundation Fellowship which I completed in 2018. In November 2019, I was awarded with a competitive Career Development Fellowship from Versus Arthritis, which is funding my research. In 2022, I was awarded as PI a Large Project Grant from the Barts Charity on the generation of human antibodies specific to Sjögren’s Syndrome (SS) diseased tissue specific neoepitops for development of novel diagnostic and targeted immunotherapies.ResearchGroup members Post-doctoral Fellows: Dr Lucas JagemannPhD Students: Dr Mattia Caliste, Miss Mareike WerleVisiting Research Fellows: Miss Nia Sciucca Summary My major research interests focus on the elucidation of the cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating autoreactive B cell activation, breach of self-tolerance and perpetuation of autoimmunity in Sjögren’s syndrome and rheumatoid arthritis. In particular, my research is focused on characterizing the fine specificity and function of monoclonal antibodies derived from single B cells and from antibody phage display technology in patients with rheumatic autoimmune diseases and cancer.
