In the launch seminar of the new WIPH “How I got my industry funding?” series we heard from the QMUL Business Development Team (BD Team) and Queen Mary Innovation (QMI). In this talk BD Team and QMI talked introduced us to (i) the different types of industry partnerships which are available, (ii) opportunities they see for WIPH based on our research strengths, and (iii) the type of support they can offer.

In the second seminar in the WIPH “How I got my industry funding?” series we heard from Andrew Shaw (Consultancy & Contract Research Manager and Yan Feng. In this session Andrew described how consultancy differs from research, walked us through different types of clients and contracts and gave insights to consultancy as a partnership tool. We also heard from Yan Feng providing insights from her experience of consultancy work.

In the third seminar in the WIPH "How I got my industry funding?" we heard from Heather Ramsay, Senior Partnerships Manager (health). In this session Heather discussed the different types of contract research, the IP considerations for each, and how to successfully manage an industry partnership of this nature. 

In the fourth seminar in the QIPH "How I got my industry funding?" series we heard from Ginette Hoare, Associate Director of Research Development, Barts Health NHS Trust. Ginette discussed contract research for clinical trials and how the JRMO supports the development of the Trust’s commercial contract research activity. We also heard from Manish Saxena, Clinical Co-Director, William Harvey Clinical Research Centre and Deputy Director Research, Barts Health NHS Trust and QMUL. to provide insights from his academic experience of clinical contract research. 

In the fifth seminar in the WIPH "How I got my industry funding?" series we heard from Natalie Nestorowicz, Development, Business Development Manager (Health). In this session Natalie will discussed KTPs and how the Business Development Team can support development. We also welcomed Alastair Noyce,  Professor in Neurology and Neuroepidemiology and Consultant Neurologist to talk about his own experience in receiving KTP funding.

In brief,  Knowledge Transfer Partnerships are a UK-wide scheme, which aim to deliver innovative solutions to business problems through the creation of mutually beneficial collaborations between industry and academic organisations. Queen Mary is ranked fourth in the UK for commercialising research (Entrepreneurial Impact Rankings 2019). We have proven success in KTPs with twelve live projects, and are the winners of the Future Innovator Award at KTP Best of the Best Awards 2020.

In the sixth seminar in the WIPH "How I got my industry funding?" series we heard from Heather Ramsay, Senior Partnerships Manager (health). In this session Heather discussed collaborative grants with industry and how the Business Development Team can support development. We also welcomed Charles Marshall, Professor and Honorary Consultant Neurologist, to talk about his own experience in developing and managing successful collaborative grants.
