One of qLegal’s longest running partners is Ada National College of Digital Skills, a sixth-form college and apprenticeship programme with a mission “to educate and empower the next generation of diverse digital talent.” Every year, qLegal students present four legal education workshops to Ada sixth-form students on topics such as “Computer Games and the Law”, “Social Media and the Law” and “Cybersecurity and the Law”.

The Yours Lawfully podcast is a multi-disciplinary project produced by postgraduate law and tech students of Queen Mary University of London, a collaboration between qLegal and the Technology, Media and Telecommunications Law Institute. This project was a part of SKETCH (Student Knowledge Exchange Through Community Hubs). Episodes feature legal experts, industry trailblazers and leading academics. This year the podcast students introduced exciting changes whilst producing 14 episodes on a variety of topics including tech, media and intellectual property Law.

qLegal is delighted to be able to work with some of the start-ups prioritising social responsibility and environmental protection. Eco-friendly, energy-efficient and recyclable products and services are being increasingly developed by sustainability start-ups. “Tech for good” start-ups are focusing on inventing tools, devices, software, and apps to reduce plastic waste, promote vegan diets, analyse and report carbon footprint.

qLegal recently hosted its first in-house panel event, exclusive to qLegal extern students. The panel included experienced and established in-house lawyers from a variety of companies. We welcomed Janet Nikova (Benevolent AI), Sophie Cole (Hargreaves Lansdown), Julia Bonder-Le Berre (Iron Mountain), Benil Salgin (Bloomberg LP) and Anthony Kenny (GSK).

Two Queen Mary students joined lawtech start-up, Amplified Global and debt advice charity, StepChange as they presented their Mixed Messages report at the Financial Conduct Authority. The students had taken part in qLegal-led interdisciplinary research for Amplified Global in support of their mission to improve legal and financial communication, and in furtherance of Queen Mary’s SKETCH initiative.
